In April each class celebrated Spring in their own creative way by creating beautiful crafts such as baskets, bunnies, egg painting and egg dying. The most exciting highlight of the week was egg hunting. Please look for pictures of your children on their class pages on the website. Thank you all for your participation in our Book Fair this year! We sold $1000 worth of books. The school receives 50% off that money in Scholastic Books. Each teacher will order new books for your child’s classroom. Thank you again for all your support!
Spring is in the air! In the month of March, the children had fun learning and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. Many children participated in wearing their green for the day. In addition to learning about the holiday, there were many arts and crafts that the children created. They even had a surprise visit from Lenny the Leprechaun! The children also started planting seeds outside in their garden. We will look forward to growing tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, strawberries, and zucchini this year.
We celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday on fourth of March by reading his books. The children were super excited, Ms. Amanda dressed up as Dr. Seuss during story time. Children in our preprimary and primary classes have been enjoying their new playground structure, music wall, and tree stumps. They all love to jump and climb!
All re-registration forms should be in by now. Please check with the office if you are unsure. A re-registration form is required for all children currently attending. If you are withdrawing from our school, you are still required to give us 30 days’ notice.
February was full of care and kindness towards one another. The children gave each other Valentine cards while enjoying their treats at their Valentine party!
The teachers taught lessons on cultural awareness and friendship. Topics discussed were Lunar New Year, the year of the pig, family and cultural traditions. The children listened and danced to different songs from the continent of Asia including music from China, India, Japan, Korea, and Asian Island countries. Teachers introduced games, cultural foods, clothing and books. The top book for the month is, Little Blue and Little Yellow, by Leo Lionni. The story is about two best friends, when one day they can’t find each other. When they finally do, they give each other such a big hug that they turn green!
The children learned about Katsushika Hokusai who was a Japanese artist, ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period. The teachers and students also had discussions and lessons on President George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
Our maintenance has been on campus this month working on several projects. Children in our primary and preprimary classes are excited about their new music wall! We are also currently working on placing in a new play structure that will be arriving soon.
January was a great start to the new year. The students have settled back after the Holiday break and are learning and growing every day! The teachers discussed Winter, Snow, and Ice. Many discussions and readings were based on habitat and places they live in during cold season, and how animals prepare for hibernation. They also touched base on Antarctica, the climate, and Martin Luther King Day!
Happy Holidays Little Acorn Families! In December, the children have been wrapping up their academic work and Montessori lessons. The teachers have been working hard to make December fun with holiday activities as well. The children discussed and learned about Celebrations around the world. We enjoyed having a fun holiday week before we headed out for the winter break. The children had so much fun preparing and singing for their recital. Thank you to all the parents that attended our winter Recital!
We had great success with Hathaway-Sycamore Child and Family Services! Thank you to all who had an opportunity to grab a tag off our tree this year. We will be looking forward to other opportunities in helping our community during the coming year.
